I thought it might be useful to give you some of the prices of food, drink, petrol, and accommodation that I paid on my recent trip to the UK in May, 2017.
To simplify matters I am giving prices in AUD at a rate of 57 pence to 1 AUD.
Car rental with Hertz for Skoda Rapid Auto (brand new!) – 17 days – $809 ($48 per day)
Petrol cheapest – $1.96 per litre
Beer or Cider in a pub – $7.50 a pint
Russian Standard Vodka 750ml in a supermarket – $28.00
Cornish Ice-cream with clotted cream – big scoop (Yum) – $3.50
Ham sandwich (delicious) with hot chips, coleslaw and soft-drink – $11.00
Dinner in pub – lamb shanks with potatoes and veg – $23.00
Takeaway fish and chips ( Dreadful – soggy chips and overcooked fish) from famous chef Rick Stein’s restaurant at Falmouth – $18.00
Full English breakfast with the works at Harvester Cafe Plymouth – $8.75
2 litres sparkling water – $$1
Packet mixed leaf salad – $1.90
Continental cucumber – $1.10
Vine tomatoes 500gm – $3.90
Iceberg lettuce – $0.90
Accommodation with breakfast at B & Bs and 3-star hotels and pubs – $62 (cheapest at comfortable budget hotel at Paignton, to $156 ( traditional superior 3-star inn in the expensive and popular Cotswolds)
1 Bottle French Merlot from supermarket- $18.00
1 bottle Jacobs Creek Reserve Sav Blanc from supermarket – $15.00
Parking in local council car park- $2.80 per hour
Parking in private car park near beach – $3.80 to $7.60 per day
Car ferry Falmouth – $10.50
