To simplify matters I am giving prices in AUD at a rate of 57 pence to 1 AUD.

Great info, thanks Mike. The prices for food and drink are better than I thought. Very timely as I will be visiting UK in July.

    Hi Dena,
Yes I was pleasantly surprised with most prices except petrol but cars seem to go further on a tank. I’d love to hear your thoughts when you get back. Enjoy. Mike

Thanks, Mike for this up-to-date info on UK prices. Indeed, they do compare favourably with Aussie prices (3 ice-creams for the grandkids $18). I’ll give the clotted cream a miss on the doc’s advice.

Questions: Is the B&B price per person or per room? Is the rental car available for pickup/ return at the airport.
Is there an age limit/ excess for those 70+?

Also found your article on Homeaway interesting and useful.

Hi again Norm,
Yes ice-creams are expensive here as are many other things. I was once again pleasantly surprised by supermarket prices in the UK.
The price for accommodation was for a Single so perhaps add 30% for a Double although in some places same price for Single as Double.
Car rental I picked up at Stansted airport and dropped at Heathrow included in this price. There was no excess for 70+ (thanks for giving my age away Norm – ha ha). Most major companies have no excess for 70+ as they realize we are living longer – well those who survive – self evident truth. Not sure how I’ll go renting at 90 though – let you know.
Glad you found HomeAway interesting. Look for next one about self- catering checklist – is a minefield.
Great to hear from you. Mike
